Thanks to Katie and Chris for sharing their gorgeous wedding at Proximity Hotel. The lovebirds met in high school marching band. He was a drummer, and she was in color guard. They were first introduced to the Proximity Hotel when Katie attended one of the hotel’s design meetings with her father and fell in love with the place. After visiting many venues, they decided upon the Proximity Hotel, because they felt it best fit them as a couple – young and contemporary. They approached the wedding planning process by thinking of a blank canvas, full of room and inspiration to design and create.
Truly an artistic family affair through and through, Katie uniquely designed many of the wedding’s design details, alongside her artist father Jeff Hurr. Their efforts ranged from hammered copper trees and handmade living grass trays, down to suspended yarn mobiles—all in a vibrant color scheme of green, ivory and black. Dad and daughter also collaborated on making around 300 yarn balls of varying colors and sizes, for table decorations, place settings and commemorative favors. They inflated specialty spherical balloons and hand-wrapped them in a cast of coarse yarn before popping all of the air out of them. Each of these special touches made for a magical and memorable day for all.
Officially hitched! Staff lined the upstairs balcony and surprised guests by fluttering down an array of green, ivory and black confetti strips.
As a special surprise for Katie and Chris, her father commissioned an artist friend to engrave the couple’s initials and a love note into copper panels that were soldered into each tree.
A unique seating chart in the bride’s color scheme works as a mock diagram of the Weaver (reception) room. Inspired by Proximity floral designer Brenda McLamb’s knack for accessorizing the spaces throughout the hotel, Katie’s father made living grass trays and delicate yarn balls. These decorative accents complemented Brenda’s beautiful green and ivory floral arrangements. In addition to using green and ivory hydrangeas, Brenda also used rare black-eyed poppies to align with Katie’s color scheme.

The Social Lobby ceremony site was converted into a dance floor for everyone to let loose. Guests dined on fun late night snacks of slider burgers and french fries, as well as an assortment of gelatos.
Proximity Hotel’s artist-in-residence Chip Holton helped capture the essence of the special day with his stunning watercolor renditions.
