A Triad hotel was featured before hotels and resorts from Bora Bora, St. Lucia, Cabo San Lucas, Hawaii and the Maldives on a top 10 list compiled by the Travel Channel.
Proximity Hotel in Greensboro was on the list of “10 Stunning Hotels That Make Sustainability a Priority” published earlier this month. Though the 10 hotels on the list are not ranked by number, Proximity was the first slide on the online feature.
Opened in 2007 by Quaintance-Weaver Restaurants and Hotels, Proximity is the first Platinum LEED certified green hotel in the United States. Q-W opened its first hotel, O.Henry Hotel, in 1998.
Travel Channel noted that the hotel and its Print Works Bistro restaurant (and other Q-W hospitality properties) are 100 percent employee-owned, support local farmers and food vendors, and buy supplies and equipment from companies that use credibly sustainable practices.
Another national media outlet, National Public Radio, interviewed co-founder Dennis Quaintance for this month’s “Journeys of Discovery: Greensboro Series” podcast. The Greensboro series also spotlighted the International Civil Rights Center and Museum and Battleground Park. NPR also interviewed producer Andreao “Fanatic” Heard about the newly released album, “Artists United to End Poverty,” that he co-produced.
U.S. News and World Report ranks O.Henry as the ninth-best hotel in North Carolina. Other Triad hotels to make U.S. News’ top 25 were the Kimpton Cardinal in Winston-Salem (No. 10), Proximity (No. 16) and Grandover Resort (No. 19). The magazine listed The Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary as the state’s top hotel. The same four Triad hotels attained Four Diamonds ratings in 2018 from AAA.
